(Calgary, Alberta, September 29, 2005) - NovAtel Inc. (NASDAQ: NGPS), a precise positioning technology company, is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of the Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Foundation’s Outstanding Commercial Achievement in Alberta Science and Technology Award (Gross sales >$25 million per year). The annual ASTech Awards recognize Alberta-grown science and technology successes across a range of industries, sectors and research areas and are given to individuals, teams, businesses and other organizations.

The Outstanding Commercial Achievement in Alberta Science and Technology Award (Gross sales >$25 million per year) is presented to a corporation that has demonstrated success in a science or technology business through outstanding entrepreneurial achievement with measurable results, based on criteria such as business growth, market penetration, uniqueness of product or process, management style and technological and financial risk taking.

An independent panel of qualified judges selects finalists and recipients in 12 awards categories from nominations submitted from across the province.   This year, the awards committee received 65 nominations.   Geographically, the 22 finalists are split evenly between Edmonton and northern Alberta, and Calgary and southern Alberta.

“Science and technology contributions are vital to Alberta’s economic diversity and prosperity,” stated Guy Mallabone, ASTech Chair.   “As important, they also have a significant impact on the health and wellness of Albertans and people around the world.”

“I believe much of NovAtel’s success can be linked to the vibrant science and technology environment that exists in Alberta,” added Pat Fenton, NovAtel’s Vice President and CTO.   “In particular, the world class Geomatics program that exists at the University of Calgary has given us access to some of the best and brightest in our industry.”
