CMC Electronics Receives Transport Canada Approval Of Software and Complex Electronic Components For Its 24-Channel Global Positioning System (GPS) Sensor

(Montreal, September 25, 2002) - CMC Electronics Inc. has received approval from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) of its 24-channel Global Navigation System Sensor Approach (GNSSA) Module for software development compliance to DO-178B level B and for Complex Electronic Component development compliance to DO-254 level B. These approvals are the principal elements required to obtain certification of user systems hosting the GNSSA to TSO-C129a by the Federal Aviation Authority. The approvals are critical milestones for further certifications such as TSO-C145 (WAAS) and TSO (LAAS). Transport Canada is presently in the final stages of issuing their recommendation to the Federal Aviation Administration for TSO approval of CMC's GNSSA module.

The new CMC Electronics' GPS receiver, known as the CMA-4024, is a 24-channel aviation- grade receiver with a growth path to full Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) Category I and LAAS Category IIIb approach capability. The CMA-4024 has been developed as a collaborative effort with NovAtel, CMC's subsidiary, and combines the respective technological strengths of both companies to develop the most advanced GPS receiver to meet the most demanding needs of civil aviation.
